"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an," admitted the company in a statement.
"We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused."
The words are:
1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kullu nafsin tha'iqatul mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').
2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kullu man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').
Taken directly from the same website, here's what a non-profit organization said of this matter:
The non-profit American Islamic Forum For Democracy has spoken out against Sony's decision to recall LittleBigPlanet, calling the move "censorship".Fyi, the composer of the song is a Muslim. And he can't see anything wrong about including the verses in his song.
M. Zuhdi Jasser, M.D, director of the AIFD, said that, “Muslims cannot benefit from freedom of expression and religion and then turn around and ask that anytime their sensibilities are offended that the freedom of others be restricted."
Jasser added that the Prophet, "defended the rights of his enemies to critique him in any way even if it was offensive to his own Islamic sensibilities or respect for Koranic scripture.”
"It's quite normal to play music and be inspired by the words of the Prophet Mohammed. It's my way to attract and inspire people towards Islam."Personally, it's about how you look at it. I think Sony thinks that the song might offend some of the Islamic communities so they are removing it before the launch. Better play safe than sorry I guess. Even that AISFD group says it's ok.
